| Real Slimey Slime
A formula for a slimy slime
for a fun science experiment.
You will need:
1/4 teaspoon Guar Gum (available at Tri-Ess Sciences)
1/4 cup warm water
2 ounces Sodium Borate, Tetra (available at Tri-Ess Sciences)
1/2 cup warm water
What To Do:
Dissolve Guar Gum in 1/4 cup warm water - reserve.
Dissolve Sodium Borate, Tetra (borax) in 1/2 cup warm water. Stir well -
reserve.
Add 20 drops of Sodium Borate, Tetra solution to Guar Gum solution.
If this is too solid, start over and use less borax solution. Use
carefully. Clean all spills immediately (before it dries). Do not Pour
down any drains! Slime can be colored with food coloring.
This slime is actually a
polymer. Poly mean "many" and mer means "unit". This
forms long chain polymers. Experiment with the ratio of Guar Gum to
Sodium Borate. Create a polymer that stretches or bounces. Wash hands
when finished.
