The selection of a balance is determined by two points
- first, determine the sensitivity that you need (1 gram, 0.1 gram or .01
gram); second determine the total capacity that you need (100 grams, 500 grams,
1000 grams, etc.). The more sensitive the balance, the smaller the total
capacity.
Balances are highly sensitive instruments and require careful
handling. When not in use, they should be covered. Most balances have agate
V-blocks for sensitivity. It is a good idea to check your balance for accuracy
periodically.
