SPECTRASMOKE™

Tri-ess Sciences Inc. is the originator of SPECTRASMOKE which has become the standard of the entertainment industry. It's safe, simple to use, easily shipped, has cool combustion, is non-toxic with minimal clean up and is available in a wide spectrum of colors. SPECTRASMOKE has world endorsement. Leading special effects experts, produces, directors, fire departments, law enforcement agencies and the military worldwide specify our products over all others.

SPECTRASMOKE is available in a wide variety of forms which enables the operator to use the exact form best suited to create the necessary effect. All SPECTRASMOKE products are for a single time use only.

SPECTRASMOKE is a trademark product.

SPECTRASMOKE is a very safe material for the following reasons: it burns without a flame, it burns at a low temperature, ignition and combustion of SPECTRASMOKE on a piece of paper will not ignite the paper; it does not decompose to produce any noxious by-products.

As of November 1984, unconditional approval was granted by The U.S. Bureau of Explosives to SPECTRASMOKE (copies available upon request). The following is a summary of that report:

"...Material not used as explosives. Therefore, it is recommended that the materials are classified as Flammable Solid, N.O.S. under the D.O.T. regulations. The sample was stable with no evidence of decomposition. The sample burned rapidly with smoke and no flame. The sample did not ignite, explode or detonate."

In October 1986 at the request of NABIT (National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians) The Center For Disease Control of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health evaluated a group of fogging compounds. Included in this test was SPECTRASMOKE (POWDERS AND SOLIDS) fogging materials. "No health effects from exposure to the airborne components could be expected. The acid levels were all below 7/mgM3 which is the standard adopted by OSHA. This level is sufficiently low to prevent any toxic injury, but improper use could cause respiratory irritation. it is possible that operators may be exceeding this level which can cause greater irritation." The Institute felt that simple precautions for use and exposure are sometimes ignored by personnel.

None of the materials used in the composition present any known health or safety hazards. However, the resultant smoke can be irritating to some people. People with respiratory problems, allergies or pregnant woman should avoid any extended exposure to SPECTRASMOKE or any other fogging materials.

In conclusion, we feel that there must be an intelligent approach to the use of any fogging material.  If further studies are made we shall endeavor to keep you informed as to the results.

Proper Shipping Name: Flammable Solid NOS. Classification: Flammable Solid. I.D. Number: UN1325.

All smoke dyes are imported and can vary slightly from batch to batch.

All duration times listed are approximate.

There are many variables present which can affect the combustion rates of our smoke compounds. We suggest that, where possible, the operator do a trial ignition to familiarize himself with the material before doing a production shot.

SMOKE DURATION

SPECTRASMOKE products have varying burn duration, depending on color, products and climatic conditions. Due to the nature of pyrotechnic chemistry, it is impossible to predict an exact burn duration. The duration of a burn is not directly connected to the volume of smoke, therefore the approximate burn time listed is merely a guide to the length of time that the product produces smoke. The color of the smoke will effect the duration of burn. All  burn times are approximate, taken from our physical testing. Most products should burn longer than the stated times. We do suggest a test burn so the technician can be familiar with the product.

STORAGE
The storage of  SPECTRASMOKE is very important. Pyrotechnic materials have an affinity to moisture, therefore, store in a dry condition. We cannot be responsible for improperly stored materials. Should your material become damp, it is possible to dry it by direct exposure to the sun or a hot air source such as a hair dryer. Do not attempt any other method of drying!!!

COLORS
All SPECTRASMOKE products are available in the following standard colors: white, red, yellow, green, blue, violet, grey, orange and pink. In addition, we can supply custom blending of most colors. SPECTRASMOKE is not produced in a black color due to the possible carcinogenic danger present in the materials used to produce a black color.
